Here, I explore personal and historical narratives, rooted in my family's legacy as 19th-century Ionian sea captains. The piece features a nightscape of Kefalonian harbour with reflections of 19th-century sailing boats, symbolizing my family's seafaring heritage and the island's once-thriving commercial fleet. Juxtaposed with this is a poignant portrait of a Scottish World War II soldier who died in action, introducing themes of sacrifice and loss. An oval tapestry detail in the sky acts as an ethereal symbol of time and human artistry. The work ultimately meditates on the intertwining of personal and collective histories, memory and loss, and the enduring spirit of place and people, connecting my lineage to broader historical narratives of commerce and the timeless allure of the sea.
