Ehoes of the Past
One of the distinguished exhibits of the Museum is the icon of the Virgin Mary by one of the greatest Cretan Post-Byzantine icon painters of the second half of the 17th century, Emmanuelle Tzanes. Through the use of cool and warm wax colors, I elaborated on the figures, as opposed to the strict rules of a religius icon painting. I have added two majolica tiles across from one another as if they are two extended hands embracing the Virgin and the Child. This painting was created with the encaustic technique and was the most demanding from my entire series.
