I created this painting to explore how memory, heritage, and the passage of time are all connected. I used a Scottish thatched blackhouse in the painting to represent history and a sense of place. An old watch symbolises how time moves on, and a nostalgic photo of Greek siblings brings in ideas of family, personal history, and belonging. The bold background, which looks like a tapestry, helps to weave all these different parts together, showing how everything is interconnected and inviting you to imagine the stories behind them. Using the textured encaustic medium, I wanted to make the painting feel tangible, so you can almost touch the layers of memory and time. For me, this artwork is about how our personal pasts and cultural roots shape who we are.
