Between two Islands
In this encaustic painting, I explore national pride and historical struggle by uniting a Greek War of Independence sword and a Scottish bagpipe within an imagined ancient Greek pottery vessel. The sword, subtly marked with Greek flag colors, symbolizes liberation and the birth of modern Greece. The bagpipe evokes Scottish national spirit, pride, and a call to action. A rugged mountain range in the background provides a powerful, primal setting, reinforcing themes of strength and national identity. The work highlights universal themes of patriotism, the fight for independence, and the profound connection individuals feel to their heritage.
